At the heart of our mission lies a simple yet powerful belief that every woman deserves access to life-saving care and the chance to live a healthy, empowered life. Shalom Health International is dedicated to the advancement of health and the saving of lives through early detection, education, and support for those affected by cervical cancer.
We work tirelessly to raise awareness, promote regular screenings, and fund vital research that drives innovation in prevention and treatment. By partnering with communities, healthcare providers, and advocates, we strive to eliminate barriers to care and ensure that no one faces cervical cancer alone.
What is Cervical Cancer?
Cervical cancer is a disease that develops when abnormal cells in the cervix—the lower, narrow part of the uterus—begin to grow uncontrollably and form a tumour.
Key points in clear, simple terms
Cause: Most cases are linked to long‑term infection with certain types of the human papillomavirus (HPV).
How it develops: Changes in cervical cells usually happen slowly over many years, moving from pre‑cancer to cancer if not detected early.
Why screening matters: Regular cervical screening can identify these cell changes before they become dangerous.
How Cervical Cancer Develops
Cervical cancer develops gradually, often over many years, through a series of changes in the cells of the cervix.
HPV infection is usually the starting point
Most cases begin with a long‑term infection from certain high‑risk types of the human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is very common, and in most people the body clears it naturally.
Cell changes occur slowly over time
Persistent HPV can cause cervical cells to become abnormal. These early changes are not cancer. They are known as precancerous changes, and they often develop slowly.
The Symptoms of Cervical Cancer?
Cervical cancer often develops quietly, especially in its early stages, which is why awareness is so important.
Some Common Symptoms of Cervical Cancer
Unusual vaginal bleeding
This is the most common sign. It may occur after sex, between periods, after menopause and after pelvic exams.
Changes in vaginal discharge
Discharge may become heavier, watery, foul‑smelling, and tinged with blood
Pelvic or lower back pain
Persistent pain that isn’t linked to your menstrual cycle can be a warning sign.
